Our History

The Scarsdale Woman's Exchange was founded in 1931 (during the Depression) to enable women to supplement their family incomes by selling handwork and baked goods prepared in their own homes. We are a charitable, non-profit organization.

Our motto has always been "We help other to help themselves." Our little shop displays new and unusual handmade items and beautiful decorative gifts. We continue to help our artisans by providing an outlet for them where they can sell their handiwork and help support themselves. (Though many find the sale of their work helpful in their careers as crafters and needlework artisans, some of our elderly and needy consignors depend on their income from our Exchange).

Our profits go to support local charitable organizations. We have recently formed an affiliation with My Sister's Place, an organization that helps battered women and their children.
